Climate neutral, what does it really mean? When printed materials are produced they release greenhouse gases. We are unable to avoid this with current technology even if we continue to implement a policy of reduced emissions. We can however, print in a climate neutral way by compensating for our essential emissions – by purchasing high-quality certificates from recognised projects specialising in climate protection.
In this way, a clear link will be established between the emissions occurring as a result of our production and the certificated process of our associated partner “ClimatePartner“. In terms of the process as a whole, the CO2 emissions released by the production process (energy consumption, printing plates, logistics, administration and detergents) are factored in together with the individual data of the particular printed products (e.g. print run, colour and shading, as well as transport). As greenhouse gases have a damaging effect globally, these emissions can be compensated for by economies made elsewhere in the world. A compensation levy equivalent to 11.00 euros per ton of CO2 emissions– about 1 to 1.5% of the cost of printing – is invested in certificates relating to environmental projects. This money might be used to provide a wind park in India, a solar kitchen in South Africa or to finance the generation of energy by hydropower in Guatemala.
And this is what we are offering you: the possibility of producing your printed product in a climate neutral way and joining us in making an important, active contribution to climate protection. Your climate neutral product will carry the relevant seal of quality, a logo and certification number, and will demonstrate your commitment to the environment. Choosing to protect the environment in this way will considerably boost your company’s image because in adopting this process you are proving that you are prepared to fulfil your responsibility to our environment.
